Week 2: DIY Ice Cream Cone Wrappers

Today we have a fun printable craft idea for you – make your own Ice Cream Cone Wrappers using our template (free for a very limited time – see below), plus digital scrapbooking papers of your choice. You can make these to match any party theme or event, such as birthdays or family reunions and you can even personalize them with names or dates. These wrappers will work for sugar cones (the ones with the pointy ends).

Here is how to make your own Ice Cream Cone Wrappers with our template:

1. After you download and extract the Ice Cream Cone Wrapper Template zip file, open it in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Place a digital scrapbooking paper of your choice in the layer directly below the template layer (I used the Ice Cream Serenade Kit). The image above shows you the template without the papers (left). The checkboard pattern you see is an open, empty space – anything put below that space will be able to be seen. The right side of the image above shows you the template with two papers added.

You will see that there are two wrappers on this sheet. You can show a different paper in each window or use the same paper if you want all your wrappers to be the same. You can reuse this template multiple times if you need more than 2 wrappers.

NOTE: If you are using 12×12″ digital scrapbooking paper, you will most likely want to resize your papers smaller since these templates are less than 6″ in size.

2. Print out your template that has the digital scrapbooking papers added to it. I print right from Photoshop onto a good quality copy paper. You may also want to save your template as a PSD file with a new file name for safekeeping. Carefully cut out each ice cream cone wrapper.

3. Flip your wrapper over so the backside is facing up. Carefully, but fairly tightly, wrap your cone with the wrapper, paying carefully attention to lining up the top edges of the wrapper. Then, using doubled sided tape or your preferred scrapbook adhesive, apply a small amount to the final edge and seal it onto the rest of the wrapper to secure it.

4. Repeat with your remaining cones.

TIP: If you are making many cones, use just one ice cream cone to make your wrappers. You can pre-wrap & secure each wrapper and easily slide it off the cone. Make all your wrappers and when you are finished, you can easily slip the cones into the wrappers.
